Vail Historical Tours

Take in some history as you ski Vail. Look For signs around the mountain with a 'locator' icon on them place throughout the mountain that make connections to the past and tell stories that inspired Vail's trail names.

Gopher Hill (Green)
Easiest Route: From Golden Peak, load chair 12 exit to the left to find the Legacy Sign.

Windisch Way (Green)
Easiest Route: From the top of Gondola One at Mid-Vail, ski down the mountain via Upper Lionsway and continue to Lodgepole Gulch and on to Gitalong Road. Vere on to Windisch Rd towards Golden Peak to find the Legacy Sign just after you pass under The Gondola. 

Tin Pants (Green)

Easiest Route: From Golden Peak, load chair 6 and unload at the half-6 exit. Continue straight ahead to Grand Junction Catwalk and proceed to load chair 10. Exit chair 10 straight and continue on to Tin Pants. 

Whistle Pig (Blue)

Easiest Route: From Mid-Vail, load chair 4 and exit left. Continue down Swingsville ridge and find Whistle Pig on Skiers left shortly after. 

Ruder’s Run (Blue)

Easiest Route: From Golden Peak, load chair 6. Exit at the half-way and to the left, proceed to ski back under the chairlift and find the Legacy Stop at the top of Ruder’s. 

Hunky Dory (Blue)

Easiest Route: From Mid-Vail, load chair 3. Exit to the left and proceed to ski under Chair 3 (Ruder’s Run). Legcay Sign will be at the top of the run. 

Riva Ridge (Black)

Easiest Route: From Mid-Vail, load chair 4. Exit left and proceed down Swingsville ridge to the end, which merges in to Riva Ridge. Legacy Sign will be at the top of the run. 

The Skipper (Black)

Easiest Route: From Mid-Vail, load chair 4 and exit to the right. Proceed down Windows Road, where you will run in to Skipper on the right hand side. Legacy Sign will be the top of the run.

Roger’s Run (Black)
Easiest Route: From Golden Peak, load chair 6 and unload at the half-6 exit. Continue straight ahead to Grand Junction Catwalk and proceed to load chair 10. Exit chair 10 to the left and continue to ski back under the lift where you will merge right, on to Roger’s Run. 

 

HISTORICAL TOURS

Learn about Vail’s iconic history by spending the afternoon on a guided complimentary tour. The history tour is filled with stories of Vail’s past. We will honor the pioneers who had a unique vision for Vail, as a ski mountain and vibrant community. 

Tours meet on TUESDAY at 12:30pm at top of Chair 4- Mountain Top Express in the Safety Center Building.
