The USA Pro Cycling Challenge brings world class cycling and cyclists to Colorado and Vail. This Colorado road race includes a Time Trial starting in Vail Village and up Vail Pass, Stage 6 of the race, on August 23th.
Spend the afternoon watching cycling, enjoy all the Vail Village and Lionshead have to offer at night such as world class food and lodging, and hiking and biking trails on the mountain. Head up Lionshead Eagle Bahn Gondola and fly through the air on Vail's new zipline or test your athletic skill on the new ropes challenge course at the top of the Lionshead Eagle Bahn Gondola.
Racers start by heading West from Solaris Plaza on Meadow Drive in Vail Village. Turning south onto Willow Bridge Road, then the race heads east at Checkpoint Charlie onto Gore Creek Drive through Vail Village. They turn north onto Vail Valley Drive and proceed up to the South Frontage Road East where they turn east paralleling I-70. This road continues for just over 3.5 miles to East Vail and becomes Bighorn Road. Racers continue east on Bighorn Road for approximately 2 miles until it becomes the Old Highway 6, which is no longer used for vehicular traffic. It heads 4 miles uphill on Vail Pass to the cul-de-sac.
How to Watch
There are two main ways to watch. Either head into Vail Village before the race starts and find a viewing spot along the well marked and barriered course, or find a less crowded and festive atmosphere along the race course. You may bike up the course in the morning before the race starts to find a good picnic spot.
Then, wait as the fastest bicyclists in the world begin to pass, one by one! Depending on where you watch from, the racers will be separated by several minutes.
