VVP will host two 5-day winter programs in January and March, with a total of 50 severely wounded veterans and 150 family members, caregivers, and partner military hospital staff participating in private, full-day lessons with Professional Ski & Snowboard Instructors of America certified ski & snowboard instructors. Wounded veterans will work with the Vail Mountain Adaptive Ski & Snowboard School, while family members will recieve equipment rentals and participate in group ski and snowboard lessons with the Vail Mountain Ski & Snowboard School. Childcare at the Golden Peak Base Lodge will be provided for infants and toddlers. Upon arrival in Vail, veterans and their families will immediately immerse themselves into the group setting through a welcome dinner hosted at the Sonnenalp Hotel. The group will continue to dine together for all breakfasts and dinners throughout the week, visiting many of Vail's local restaurant establishments. Vail Mountain Adaptive Ski & Snowboard School instructors and program staff/volunteers will also be in attendance at group meals. These meals will provide beneficial socialization and bonding opportunities through encouraging participants to reconnect with their families and to build new relationships with others experiencing similar challenges. In the evenings, the participating veterans and their families will enjoy scheduled activities, including a ride on the Lionshead gondola to the top of Vail Mountain for EpicDiscovery activities and bowling at Bol Vail. All programs are 100% free to wounded warriors, their families, guests and military medical hospital staff.
