Betty Ford Alpine Gardens

At 8,250 feet above sea level, the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens is the highest botanical garden in the United States. With numerous educational programs for children and adults, including mountain hikes, docent-led tours, classes and exhibits, the beautiful botanical gardens in Vail offer countless ways to enjoy the rare and exotic alpine wildflowers and plants.

Explore and enjoy our stunning mountain garden situated high in the Rocky Mountains. In the shadow of Colorado's Gore Range, our assortment of perennial beds, rock gardens and waterfalls dramatically display an astonishing array of the world's most unique and beautiful high elevation plants.

Then and Now: The Changing Arctic Landscape:

May 1 - July 5

The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens Education Center will be hosting a traveling exhibit that makes climate change visible through historic and recent photographs from May 1 – July 5.

Then & Now: The Changing Arctic Landscape is a nationally touring exhibit which will be on display at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens Education Center in Vail, Colorado. The exhibit pairs historic photographs with recent images taken from the same vantage points. Some photo pairs show minor differences, while others reveal dramatic changes to the arctic landscape.

Vail Nature Center

Operated by Walking Mountains Science Center 

A log cabin perched between an alpine meadow and the forested bank of Gore Creek houses the Vail Nature Center. This seven-acre facility, in the heart of Vail, is a tranquil gem whose knowledgeable staff hosts informative bird, wildflower and beaver pond hikes, as well as the Vail Hiking Club and has a wealth of things to do in Vail. Camp Eco Fun is heaven for children. Classes in the art and photography of nature or fly fishing are available. The Nature Center is open seven days per week Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, plus winter on a limited basis.

VNC Directions:
Take I-70 exit 176 and head east on South Frontage Road. Turn right on Vail Valley Drive, drive for 0.7 miles and park at the soccer fields.
Walk across the street and down the trail. NEW this year you can take the in-town bus to the Nature Center stop on Vail Valley Drive! Visit the Vail Nature Center website for more information or call 970-479-2291
