Vail – Like Nothing on Earth
The first thing you’ll notice is that the town of Vail is different than most Colorado ski towns. Vail started from sheep grazing land so it was a blank canvas, patterned after the European town of Zermatt. Cozy, without cars, the awesome mountain deployed in front as you walk leisurely down the quaint cobble stone streets.
Think of it as your own personal assistant. Our Mountain Information Center is your resource for reservations and recommendations on the hot spots and best-kept secrets in town. Opened daily, 8:00am – 5:00pm during the winter season. The office is located in the Arrabelle plaza at Lionshead.
The town of Vail was founded on the spirit of the legendary 10th Mountain Division and its’ heroic exploits across the mountain ranges of northern Italy during World War II. Trained in nearby Camp Hale, many troopers fell in love with the Colorado high country and returned following the war. Amongst them was Vail’s future founder Pete Siebert, who’d grown up in homesteader’s cabin a few miles from Gore Creek Valley.
Over the past ten years, Vail Resorts has invested over $125 million in improvements to Vail Mountain. Vail Village and LionsHead are in the midst of a similar renewal. Vail Resorts and the Town of Vail are working together to make North America's top ski resort destination even better.
