Vail Snow Daze: Dec 5-11, 2011

The biggest early season party in North America was a huge hit in 2011 with great performances and apres events. Watch a concert recording of headliner Yukon Kornelius below, and start thinking about booking your trip next year. Event schedule and band lineups should be announced around October 2012. Alternative rock band Guster is known for putting on a rockin’ live show punctuated with hits and plenty of humor. The quartet has toured with such luminaries as the Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan and the Barenaked Ladies and their show is sure to include songs from their newest album, Easy Wonderful.

Born in Oregon and raised in Southern California, Jake Smith is the singer/songwriter known as The White Buffalo. From the moment he learned his first three chords on a guitar he got in a pawnshop, Smith began writing songs. Smith has since taken on a band, which tours together as The White Buffalo. The band is a hard working, no frills outfit. From the largest music festival to the smallest local neighborhood bar, The White Buffalo delivers its signature sound as if each show was its last.

Jakob Dylan and Band will come to Vail Village for a free show on Friday, Dec. 9. Coming off the successful release of his sophomore album, Women + Country, the Grammy-winning artist is known as soulful and sublime with a distinct voice and an unparalleled songwriting style. Jakob Dylan will be joined in Vail by Russ Pollard, Jason Soda and Eli Thomason from the Los Angeles-based Everest.

Zach Heckendorf is only eighteen, a fact that might come as a surprise to many listeners. With a unique, soulful voice and masterful guitar playing to match, Zach is an exciting young talent. Zach is fresh off the release of his debut album, “The Cool Down,” which was produced by Brett Dennen and recorded in California earlier this year.

A star-studded rock super group made up of Dave Matthew’s Band bassist Stefan Lessard, Barenaked Ladies guitarist/vocalist Ed Robertson, Guster guitarist/vocalist Adam Gardner, Spymob drummer Eric Fawcett, Twisted Sister vocalist Dee Snyder, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, O.A.R. members Marc Roberge and Jerry Depizzo, and actor/professional cow bell player Jason Biggs, Yukon Kornelius’ shows are known for being extremely rare, enormously energetic and JAM PACKED with special guest appearances. Known for their major hits like “My Own Worst Enemy,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot Modern Tracks chart, Lit has been on the alternative rock scene for more than 20 years. The band, who have has released five studio albums throughout their career, recently finished recording new material for their sixth album.

The Polish Ambassador is known for shows that feature his own blend of upbeat electronic dance music and layered melodies. The Ambassador blends elements of funk, glitch, hip-hop, 80’s music, jungle and dub into a sound that will induce a healthy amount of dancing and getting down.

DJ Mo:Rockin has quickly made a name for himself since playing the Snowball Music Festival this past March in the Vail Valley. His sound incorporates many styles of electronic music including electro, mash-ups, glitch hop and dubstep.

Is there a cost to attend any of the Vail Snow Daze concerts and events?
No, all Vail Snow Daze concerts and events offered to guests at no cost.

Where will the concerts and events take place?
All of the concerts and events will take place outdoors, so attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately! All venues are standing room only. Please refer to the concert and event schedules for specific locations.

Where do I park for the events?
You are highly encouraged to park in either the Vail Village or Lionshead parking structures on South Frontage Road. Street parking is not permitted until all public parking facilities are completely full. The Town of Vail also has an extensive public bus system. Please use it wisely and avoid drinking and driving at all costs. Vail PD, the Eagle County Sheriff and the CO State Patrol have zero tolerance and will enforce DUI laws to the fullest!

Is there handicap parking/access at the concert venues?
Yes, there will be a handicap section at the Ford Park and Vail Village concert venues. These areas will be marked with signage. Handicap parking will be available at the Ford Park venue on the South Frontage Road, just across from the entrance to the venue. Handicap parking for the Vail Village concerts will be located in the Vail Village and Lionshead parking structures in designated spaces.

What am I allowed to bring into the concerts?
Spectator security and safety is one of our highest priorities. A number of security measures have been implemented for the safety and security of event attendees and employees. Event management appreciates concert attendees abiding by and understanding the need for the policies and procedures outlined below.

Please leave the following at home, as attendees will be denied entry should any attempt be made to bring them into event venues: large bags/backpacks, coolers, alcohol/drugs, bottles/glass containers, cans, dogs, chairs, weapons of any kind (including, but not limited to firearms and knives), laser pointers of any kind, signs attached to a stick or pole, recording devices, professional still cameras and video cameras.

Please note that event management retains the right to make the final decision on prohibited items. Furthermore, specific concert or event security policies may create additions to the list above. All guests entering the venues are subject to search by metal detecting wands and/or pat downs.

Additionally, all small bags and purses are subject to search at venue entrances. Attendees will see an increased security and police presence both inside and outside the concert venues.

What can I expect to find at Après…Skiing Magazine Style?
Après…Skiing Magazine Style happens Monday, Dec. 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the Tap Room in Vail Village. The magazine’s editors will be behind the bar serving up Skiing Mag inspired signature cocktails, including drinks featuring Tequila Don Julio, along with delicious food specials. All attendees will have the chance to enter to win a VIP package from Skiing that includes a day of skiing with the editors and VIP passes to the Yukon Kornelius concert on Saturday, Dec. 10. Additional prizes will be given away throughout the evening, making this a party not to be missed.

What are the details of the Yukon Kornelius Pub Crawl presented by Bud Light?
The Yukon Kornelius Pub Crawl presented by Bud Light will happen on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at The Club, The George and Vendetta’s in Vail Village. The pub crawl will give attendees the chance to earn a free Bud Light at the Guster concert by stopping by all three of the pub crawl locations and collecting all of the Yukon Kornelius themed gear. Attendees will pick up a punch card at the first location visited in addition to their first piece of theme gear. Pub crawlers must visit all three locations to get all three punches on their cards and all three pieces of gear. Once all are collected, attendees must present their completed card to one of the pouring stations in the Snow Daze concert venue while wearing all of their pub crawl gear to receive a free Bud Light. All redeemed Yukon Kornelius Pub Crawl beer vouchers will be entered into a drawing for a pair of Liberty skis at the Guster concert at Solaris, which will happen at or about 8 p.m. that evening. Vouchers for free Bud Lights are only valid in the Snow Daze Guster concert venue at Solaris between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Must be 21 to participate.

What can I expect to find at Demo Daze and the Reverb Eco Village ?
Demo Daze and the Reverb Eco Village will be open at the base of the Vista Bahn from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Guests can expect to find numerous brand expos, organization information and product samples in this area from the likes of Sprint, Helly Hansen, Maui Jim, Rockstar, Muscle Milk, Rustic Crust and more. Demos from Nordica, Burton and Ramp Sports will also be available.
