THURSDAY, JULY 6
The simple mention of a Louisiana or Texas roadhouse conjures up images of a crowded dancehall filled wall-to-wall with rabid music fans rocking to a hotter-than-hot band playing a smoldering blend of swampy R&B, jumping blues and heart-wrenching ballads. Pianist/vocalist/songwriter Marcia Ball brings that spirit to every concert she plays and every song she records. Her music is mixed with equal parts simmering soul fervor and two-fisted piano pounding, featuring rollicking roadhouse rave-ups and soulful Gulf Coast R&B.
THURSDAY, JULY 13
BUTLER, BERNSTEIN + THE HOT 9
Butler, Bernstein & the Hot 9 is an artistic collaboration destined to happen. Master musician, pianist and vocalist Henry Butler tells stories through the rise, swing, and rumble of his fingers as they channel sounds as diverse as his Louisiana birthplace: jazz, Caribbean, classical, pop, blues and R&B, among others. The combination of Butler with trumpeter/maestro Steven Bernstein and the fiery unit he calls the Hot 9 uses a traditional New Orleans palate as their launching point, exploring everything from early 20th century blues to thoughtful and captivating improvisations.
THURSDAY, JULY 20
FRANK VIGNOLA’S HOT CLUB OF FRANCE TRIBUTE BAND
Few jazz legends have a more exotic mystique than Django Reinhardt, the four fingered Belgian-born gypsy guitarist and banjo player who led the legendary Parisian ensemble known as the Quintet of the Hot Club of France in the 1930’s and 40’s. Out of their sizzling, infectious, and swinging style, the musical genre known as “gypsy jazz” was born. An international quintet led by virtuoso guitarist Frank Vignola will bring the smoking hot gypsy jazz style to life in this exhilarating performance.
THURSDAY, JULY 27

With the passion and swagger of Satchmo himself, Byron Stripling’s phenomenal trumpet playing and vocals are complemented by Count Basie Big Band singer Carmen Bradford.

RENE MARIE + EXPERIMENT IN TRUTH
René Marie’s is the sort of voice which first comes to mind when someone asks for a jazz singer — big and expressive, at home in classic swinging settings and comfortable in crowds. There’s plenty to set her apart, though. She made her first recording in her early 40s, borrowing various elements of folk, R+B, and classical to create a captivating hybrid style.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 10

JOEY DEFRANCESCO + THE PEOPLE
Joey DeFrancesco is often credited with the resurgence of the Hammond organ in jazz in the ‘80s.It’s no wonder he is referred to simply as “the master” of the B-3 organ. Loved by musicians, critics, and audiences, he has won the DownBeat Critics Poll nine times and has won the Readers Poll every year since 2005. He throws down like very few can, but is also an energetic showman with an infectious playfulness that keeps the mood light and effortlessly social.
