MAX WAGNER QUARTET
Max Wagner is a dynamic, exciting alto saxophonist and jazz vocalist. A lyrical player, Max has performed with many jazz greats including Red Holloway, Bud Shank, and Lou Donaldson, and has appeared on more than 50 recordings. He has toured extensively, playing in concert halls, music festivals and jazz clubs throughout North America. Along with Jeff Jenkins on keyboard, Mike Marleir on drums and Ken Walker on Bass, Max delivers classic straight ahead jazz, soulful bebop, Latin jazz, and romantic ballads.

LOS CHICOS MALOS
¡Los chicos Malos! is a newly formed group comprised of Jonny Jyemo on drums and timbales, Victor Mestas on keys, Scott Messersmith on congas, Mike Facey on Bass and Jose Alberto rounded out the sound on lead vocal. The band plays a combination of Cuban jazz, salsa, cha cha’s, and is based in the Denver area. As a five piece, the band can stretch out and approach the music with a more open mind and open format. Sometimes feeling more like a Descarga, this group is guaranteed to have you shaking it!

PHIL WIGGINS + GEORGE KILBY JR.
As a longtime collaborator and sideman for Blues and R&B icons like Pinetop Perkins and Henry Butler, George Kilby Jr. has taken his music from the road-houses of the Southeast to the major music festivals of Europe. Phil Wiggins was half of the internationally acclaimed acoustic blues duo “Cephas and Wiggins” for 30 years. Wiggins’ plays the harmonica better than any blues-man around, making this pocket-sized instrument sing, howl and moan! This new partnership combines Wiggins’ masterful harmonica playing and Kilby’s unique songwriting to create an immersive bluesy, folksy new sound.

B3 JAZZ PROJECT
Before his family emigrated to the US, Vlad studied classical piano for 11 years at The Uspenski School of Music and The Conservatory in his hometown of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. After moving to Colorado, he was “discovered” while playing at The Little Nell in Aspen, by Herbie Hancock who subsequently invited him to participate in the Thelonious Monk Institute. Since then Vlad has appeared at numerous jazz festivals and has performed with Bob Berg, Stanley Jordan, Ernie Watts, Arturo Sandoval and many others. Vlad is joined by Laura Newman on tenor sax and Jill Frederickson on drums.

BLT AND BOB REBHOLZ
No, it’s not a sandwich, it’s one of the Vail area’s most popular duos: Brian Loftus and Tony Gulizia, supplying mountains of great jazz for years. This prolific team focuses on the jazz you know and love, from Duke Ellington to Count Basie, from the Gershwins and Cole Porter to Al Jarreau and Van Morrison. With Brian on drums, Tony is on keyboards and contributes the smooth vocals with a touch of grit–like mayonnaise on crisp toast! BLT will be joined by Bob Rebholz on saxophone, who has played with the likes of Nancy Wilson, James Taylor, Natalie Cole, The Temptations, and the Four Tops.

CHUCK LAMB QUARTET
Stellar keyboard player Chuck Lamb returns to the Market, playing straight ahead jazz with a contemporary twist. A member of the highly popular Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Chuck is joined by Eric Thorin on bass, Pail Romaine on drums and Joe Anderies on woodwinds. In addition to playing hard-driving originals, JazzFusion will put some new twists on some old standards, delivering a great afternoon of top flight jazz, including some ballads, blues, straight ahead jazz, and a plethora of tuneful energy.

KATHY MORROW + DZ
A longtime Vail Jazz favorite and regular at The Market, Kathy has performed widely in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Her energy, vocal range and musical sense are beautifully applied to the standard jazz repertoire and Great American Songbook. A natural entertainer, Kathy is also well known as part of the popular vocal trio The Fabulous Femmes. Joining Kathy on keyboard is Brent Gordon (alto & tenor sax, vocals), Ron Bland (bass) and Larry Dutmer (drums).
Kathy Morrow will keep the party going every Thursday night after Vail Jazz @ Vail Square with their new series, “Party On” at the Vail Chophouse.

THE HENNESSY 6
Hailed by Wynton Marsalis as an interpreter of “clarity, elegance and uncommon grace,” trumpeter/composer Sean Hennessy leads this versatile Colorado-based sextet in their first Vail Jazz outing. The group includes Cully Joyce (sax), Colin McAllister (guitar), Brad Bietry (keyboard), Jason Crowe (bass), and Devin Malloy (drums). With a unique sound that features original music by all the group’s members in intricate arrangements, their versatility and virtuosity are showcased in soulful ballads, driving swing, Latin, hard bop and more. The band’s various members have appeared alongside Dave Liebman, Maria Schneider, Ernie Watts, Jon Faddis, Wycliffe Gordon, Vince Gill and Amy Grant.

JOE SMITH + THE SPICY PICKLES
Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles Jazz Band is a Denver-based vintage jazz band dedicated to revitalizing swing music and dance. This small group style swing band packs a punch of power, personality, and wit into each show, intriguing generations new and old with the beloved charm of big band swing from the late 30’s and early 40’s. The Pickles bring it all – high energy, quality musicianship, and an authentic big band sound and look that celebrate the unique American spirit of swing.

KATIE GLASSMAN AND SNAPSHOT
Based in Boulder, fiddler/singer/songwriter Katie Glassman is a Colorado favorite, known for both her instrumental virtuosity and musical expression. She is one of the country’s most renowned and decorated Texas-style and swing fiddlers–3-time reigning Colorado state fiddle champion, among many other honors. With the release of her CD Snapshot, Katie and her band have garnered a national following for their marriage of old-time Western music with contemporary songwriting and musicianship sensibilities. Her songs explore modern emotional landscapes with sensitivity and wit, while still drawing on traditional American music styles. She is joined by guitarist Joey McKenzie and bassist Gavin Kelso.
